Born Innocent

Postby sgil75 on Sun Oct 11, 2009 5:42 pm

I just recently bought the Born Innocent cd and it's quickly becoming one of my favorites. I absolutely love the production of this one, which is cool since I'm a fan of Edwyn Collins' music as well. It's got an "edge" that some of the other records don't have, especially on the first 4 songs.

Interesting, sgil. I love the songs on BI, but I'm not fussy about the sound on the album. I always feel like fiddling with the balance and levels. Different strokes, etc.

Oh I definitely think Sunshine On Leith is the best overall album, and This Is The Story is the first one I bought of theirs. I love the sound of that record, how it sounds like just the 2 of them in a room singing and playing. I finally bought all the Proclaimers (new fan) so it's going to take awhile to listen and really get into all of them. I wish the band would have sold cd's of their live shows on their recent tour, because that to me sounded better than any of their recordings. Crowded House and a bunch of other bands have done that, recorded their shows and then had the cd's for sale right after or for sale online.

I think the two newer albums on the Universal 14 are generally better than both BI and Restless Soul. However there are some masterpieces on those two albums.

I can't compare albums, so don't ask me. I love them all. :D
The great thing is precisely that all of them are different. Every new album brings new and original ideas. It's amazing how they can do so many different styles and always be themselves ;)

I think this is such a tough subject. As everyone probably knows, I go for minimal messing. But, as soon as I will firmly state that, something in the overproduced albums draws me in. No, you just can't compare albums. Or moments, for that matter.
sgil, you should go to youtube and check out They Really Do, which some of us love and the lads barely remember doing.

I did find BI somewhat overproduced when I first listened to it. In fact it took me some time to get into this album. It was funny, because it happened when I heard Role Model acoustic (remember the SXSW webcast?). I thought the acoustic version was awesome, and then I felt like listening to the album version to compare. I did, and suddenly 'discovered' the whole album. Now it's one of my favourites (well... all of them are, did I say it before :D)

Sorry but that is a really unfortunate way of abreviating "story" personally i like Born innocent too and Edwyn's production is top, he is a top fella as well.

Born Innocent is about the only album I am not really fond of, the songs are good, but the quality of the backing music is the weakest of them all as it sounds so artificial, although Restless Soul was similar, it was softened up a bit so much more likeable.
