Don't Turn Out Like Your Mother and I Won't Turn Out Like My

Just though this might be amusing as I typed it on another thread.

It's doing something and suddenly catching yourself and realising that's what your Dad (or Mum) did, and whilst at the time he did it you thought it was odd behaviour, now it makes sense... My father tended to back up (pre-computer back up, ie getting another copy) his vinyl and video "just in case one gets scratched or damaged" and he would get a spare or two. When he died we found at least three sets of Fawlty Towers recorded from the TV.

One of those things that I think happens to us all at a certain age. Any quirks that you'd like to admit to? Or perhaps has anyone got a friend who has a story that fits (if you are shy to admit for yourself)...

Like my mother - nagging at my two teens for using dozens of towels a day

Like my father - verrrrrrrrry tidy. I love the quiet too!

Ah! But do you find yourself thinking that you promised yourself, as a teenager on the other end on the nagging, that you wouldn't nag when you had teenagers yourself?

Catching yourself doing something which made no sense when your parent did it but now when you do it it makes perfect sense.... Like following your offspring around the house turning off lights behind them as they leave the room; keeping a spare piece of wood in the garage just in case it might come in handy.

Like my father: fighting openly for justice for all kind of people. One person in my village said he thought "they had lost a fighter when my dad died 9 years ago, but here I was" :)

When I was a kid, my dad called all four of us "BeckyStephenTeresaJeremy." I was offended that he couldn't get our names right AND that he didn't even stop when he got to the right name. I was ALWAYS going to remember my kids' names. Ha. I call the kids each others' names, or my husband's name, or the dog's name, but a good portion of the time when I'm flustered or angry I can't even come up with ANY name and have to resort to "Hey, hey you. Yeah, you!" or "That one over there."

And it is not just because I have four kids. When my oldest was a toddler, whenever I'd get angry with him I'd call him my husband's name. I'm just horrible with names.

Ha Ha LML! Sounds like our house but with different names of course! Often when I'm asking one of my teenagers something they say, "Me?" even if the other one is not even in the same room! For example, "Tom, would you take the re-cycle out please?", and he says, "Who me?" to which I reply, "No! The other Tom!". It never fails to annoy and I feel perversely pleased with my little self cos it make life as a harrassed mother just that little bit more fun!
