Live bittorrent Proclaimers show to download..

Postby sgil75 on Tue Oct 06, 2009 1:19 am

Hey guys. I'm not sure how the band feels about people downloading live recordings so I figured I mentioned this one I just saw online. Hopefully it's cool with them. If any of you have never used bittorrent, it's pretty easy to learn and you can find some amazing shows to listen to. I only use it for live stuff, and occasionally to preview an album before I actually buy it (I always buy music, hate the idea of ripping off an artist). Anyway, the show is at www.dimeadozen.org. You have to join to download but it's worth it. Most of the concerts are soundboard recordings, or FM broadcasts, but there are audience recordings (usually I don't bother with those). The show I found is from the Hebridean Celtic Festival from July 13th 2007 and it sounds fantastic. It was broadcast on BBC Scotland according to the person who uploaded it. Nice setlist, perfect soundboard recording. Thought some of you might want to check it out.

Thanks very much for the torrent link, but it seems that the site has reached its max number of registered users... we'll have to wait for a slot ;)

Hey, thank you very much, Sgil, this is fantastic ! Finally my computer finished downloading the torrents and I got some time to listen to them, making the most of my short spare time. LOL.

The Hebridean Festival is very good, but also the acoustic show in Los Angeles! I'm loving it. The sound quality is amazing. The comments and intros by Craig or Charlie to each song are also loud and clear. At the beginning they apologize for any mistakes because it's their first fully acoustic show in 21 years!! They didn't make any mistake though. LOL.

Loved to hear the acoustic version of some songs for the first time, such as He's Just Like Me or Teardrops. (I know some haverers are not very keen on Teardrops... You should hear this version!!)

For those of you who would like to listen to it but have any problems to download torrents, just let me know and I'll pass it on. I've converted the original flac audio files into mp3 :)

Just one question - aren't bittorrents and other p2p downloads immoral and unfair, if not illegal?
Do you want to follow paths or blaze a trail?

If the LA acoustic show was for sale on CD I'd certainly buy it. But as it is not, downloading it doesn't prevent us from buying an original record. I think that listening to it can only encourage people to go to more shows.

I love Teardrops - as with all the older stuff. Thanks Sgil for the bit torrent. I have a Quicktime movie of the Skye session in about 2002 but don't know where to put it. same for an interview which Carole and I with the boys about the same year. The Skye session has the version of 'Oh Jean' which is up on you tube

It shows Ross, Nico and Stuart before the change over to Clive, Zac and Garry-John
If you don't get on this board, I'll come round yer 'ouse and stamp on all your cd's

You did an interview? Oh how funny. I do love Jean,on the laptop, which can be turned, of course. Good job. You know I would love to see that!

On the LA gig, I feel since it was done on the internet, it's out there and that's that. These are certainly new problems to be worked out.

I highly doubt that torrent is illegal. That website, Dimeadozen.com, only hosts live recordings. If there's any live songs that were officially released, such as on a cd single or album, they're not allowed to be posted and get taken down. The Proclaimers show I mentioned is a radio broadcast that anyone could have recorded off the air. On another note, I just listened to the boys do an acoustic session on NPR's Mountain Stage. Here's the link, it sounds awesome! http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... =114218604

Just a comment about downloads and bootlegs. I've chatted with C&C and Tom, their tour manager, about them. They agree that unless people make copies of music that they have for sale, it actually helps to have more people learn about their music.
