The Proclaimers

I know you have all been eagerly anticipating this.

Well after I had been in Kelso for several hours and had literally ran out of things to do (not a whole lot to do in Kelso on a Sunday), and I had watched the Simpsons I decided I would go and get a Chippy and then head along to the Tait Hall.

This was about 5:30 so I was second in the queue, just my luck though I went to put my chip wrapper in the bin and the person in front of me got let into the building.

However there were positives and negatives of being so early, negative was two drunk guys arrived early on, now they weren’t trouble, just a little annoying a bit over friendly, and I had to put up with them for nearly 3 hours, especially one of them, who decided he liked me so much he was going to sing me a song, still at least they weren’t aggressive.

Positive though was pure entertainment, a local lad, about 15 apparently, was such a big fan of the Proclaimers and didn’t have a ticket so decided to climb up a 35ft drain pipe to watch through the windows on the roof. However, he quickly realised he wasn’t getting back down, and a few of his mates came round to the front door to try and get help, one of the two drunk guys went round to try and help and realised the only way for hi to get down was to call the Fire Brigade. Pure entertainment for free (slightly annoying thing was every security guard, policeman and fireman kept trying to get me to sign things thinking I was security).

Anyway to the gig, the support act were good, but not to my taste at all, far too loud, the it was funny when the lead fell over his laces.

The Proclaimers came on at 9pm as usual, opening with a great rendition of Notes and Rhymes. A few of the songs from the new album featured (see below) but also a few unusual ones such as One Too Many and Should Have Been Loved.

The venue was vastly overheated and I was very very thirsty, fortunately after the gig had finished Charlie had left one of his bottles of water out, which one of the security guards gave me .

The gig finished at 10:30, and gradually the crowd dispersed with a number of us converging outside waiting for autographs. Stevie Christie was out early, and was happy to stand and chat and signed an autograph. However the rude unpleasant road crew kept saying “they are not coming out”, the complete opposite of what the management were saying. About 11:00 they came out to only about 5 of us left, saying they didn’t know anyone was waiting. They were happy to sign autographs and get pictures taken and I have to say they are great guys.

Good news is Stevie Christie assured me that Wages of Sin will be played on the tour, with these interesting words, “it will definitely be played on the tour, we have got the brass sorted out”, take from that what you want.

We were thw lucky ones who got in early - best forget fish n chips in future!! Agree concert was fantastic as usual. Far too hot but I spoke to GOD today and asked that he moderate the weather in future when I am gigging! Craig n Charlie extremely pleasant as usual after the show great guys great songs great experience .... Roll on City Hall Newcastle November.

Yeah it was good to meet you too, great gig, nice small venue. I am so jealous of you, you got to stand an listen to the Proclaimers warming up rather than a drunken mans ramblings lol.

Nice looking set - the newer ones in the first half and then the long-time favourites toward the end.

Two weeks until the Winnipeg gig!!

Cool setlist, but I really hope they will play New religion in Quebec, that has to be my favorite recent song. Wages of sin would be cool too!

It must be so hard for them to do "the shouts" in the heat, but I am sure they gave it 110%.
