Sheffield 29th October 2009

Hi all. After seeing the Proclaimers in Bridlington last year, I promised myself a repeat. Just got back from Sheffield, stunning performance, just a shame the crowd was a bit boring and unable to stand up. Next promise is to see the Proclaimers again.

Hi mr_c ! Glad to hear there was another haverer there! Whereabouts were you? I was 4th row in front of Craig.

I'll post a proper review when I can type on a proper keyboard, but for the moment I have to say I'm dazzled. Soooo brilliant. Every time I see them seems to be better. I'll try to give you the setlist in shorthand. Lol.

I knew I'd make friends there, and I did, a lovely girl and big fan called Julianna, from The US. She has travelled farther than me!! LOL. And she is coming to Leeds too.

I'm still overwhelmed by the way C&C greeted me afterwards. I felt as if it was them who came to meet me, instead of the other way round. Those are the moments when you don't know whether you are in this world or where. But this time I even managed to SPEAK!! Lol. The rest of the band were so really nice too. So, C&C are waiting for you all Haver Girls and Boys, I told them we are all coming along tomorrow. :D I also asked them to play WOS at Leeds too, cos we all want to hear it. It's impressive, you'll see.

Ok more in some days :D I'm on cloud 9 :D

Hi Also just back from Sheffield.

It was very strange. Had a great seat in the front row Charlie's side, but a lot of people looked
as if they had won their seats in a raffle, and only come along because they had nothing
else to do. The band were brilliant as usual and the sound was really good.
Went to Warwick on Saturday and was disappointed with the sound.
Where we were standing you could hardly hear Steve at all, and everything Craig was
saying was just garbbled. Good atmosphere though.

I think Wages of Sin is a good song and the band really enjoy playing it, but it just kills the encore.
They slowed the crowd done with My Old Friend The Blues which I love, But WOS does not
get the crowd going again, and a lot of people did not seem to realise that J K Blues is the last
song, and were quite content to sit there. We were up however getting into it.

Bumped into Twinkle on the way out. I was the strange sweaty man that said hello.
Of all the years I've been to see the Proclaimers I really think they keep getting better.
The quality of muscianship and songs at the moment is just absolutely brilliant.
They have always wrote fantastic, emotive songs. Which I think is why most of us get into
The Proclaimers. But now coupled with the quality of playing just blows you away.
I feel sorry for the Scottish audiences if they do not get the violin version of Sunshine on Leith.
A breathtaking song, just given so much more.

Well thats me till the next time.

Hi Richard, nice to meet you here. You made me feel as if I was famous, first time somebody comes and asks me "are you Twinkle". LOL!

Lucky you, front row. My 4th felt too far away from the stage!

I agree about the people not getting much into it. But it was a funny contrast, cos here and there you could see really enthusiastic people, eg a woman who was more or less behind you, or the guy who was dancing or doing something around the aisles (I think the band didn't like it much cos he got everybody looking back at him). Also two girls at the front stood up and did a sort of routine to I'm om my way, it was fun. But at the end of the main set, when some of us got up to I'm gonna be, some ppl just stared at us as if they couldn't understand why we got up.

By the way, there were two lovely middle-aged women sitting next to me, we chatted a bit (it was nice to meet you if you read this, I'm the girl who flew more than 500 miles :D)

Kettle/pot, my dear!

Oh, those seated venues just feel so different, don't they? I think it would be torture to hear N&R and Wages of Sin and not be able to move every part in response! I confess that in Winnipeg, where I knew it would be all seated, I got permission from management to stand unobtrusively against a wall at the back of one of the seating areas for the first song because I knew it would be N&R, thanks to the set lists that had been posted. And although I got odd looks, including from Zac, who spotted me in spite of my strategy of just hanging at the back, I was very happy!

I don't know how to get these quotes in boxes from other posts but:
Twinkle: "I'm still overwhelmed by the way C&C greeted me afterwards" - I am still basking in the warmth of the thanks Craig offered to me at Nottingham, thank you for coming and thank you for briging the children... We were trying to out-thank each other...

...and recognised in the crowd like a celebrity...

Richard: "but a lot of people looked as if they had won their seats in a raffle" - They may, like me, be rockin' on the inside, or just come to see "I'm Gonna Be" and Peter Kay? Also, if it is the first time of hearing some of the songs they may not quite get them yet? Just a few excuses on behalf of the unknown seated masses.

In response to your query JS, if you want to reply specifically to what someone has said, when you are logged in next to all previous posts you will see a small red button saying "quote". Press that and then type you post as normal.
Hope it makes sense!
Glad you hada good time Neila, i spoke to Mazza a few minutes ago she is nearly in Leeds and really looking forward to having a cracking night with you all and C&C (of course!).

You're right, JSTSDSDSSDSSagain. Not everyone expresses themselves in the same way. And I know it did take me some time to get some of the songs. Let's not be judgmental.

I have been to 3 of just the two and 3 whole band. For three of the six, I was sitting next to a wild banshee, who could not be controlled. Regardless, I would probably be regarded as not being interested, but nothing could be more wrong. I even got chastised by an audience member for not "getting into it". I didn't do all that traveling because I wasn't interested, trust me. That said, I do believe I showed my interest at the end of every song and then some.
I would think, if you had not heard them before, by thie time you got out "what did they say?", they would be on the next song! I mean, we know them, we're ready.
Or, they might have won them in a raffle and thought they were going to do I'm Gonna Be the whole concert, at which point, the lads would start twitching and their eyes would cross.

LOL Not in the least annoying. The woman has had considerable experience and has learned to go absolutely crazy in a relatively small space, keeping it mostly vertical, However, if her partner in crime is next to her and she has had a few, it gets rather unseemly. I wonder how she is at weddings?
Fran, I wish you had been there and we had met.
