We saw these guys live and really liked them. I do think they sound better in person than on a recording, but they give all their music away for free so that's cool. http://www.elliotroad.com/Elliot_Road/Music.html

Right now, I'm listening to Carbon Leaf's new album, "Nothing Rhymes with Woman." I love the track "Another Man's Woman." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCuGdFsBX28 (song starts after the Bon Jovi improv)

I also love, love, love Matt Nathanson. Here's a clip of his song "Gone" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfEEEE7ExWo

Another song that I've loved since last summer is "Technoccordian" by the band Scythian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNoixQ5PqRA

For me it's not just a single song or album, but the entire Steely Dan back catalogue so I'm familiar with anything they play when I go to see them at the end of this month.

'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life'... :D

Joan and I went to see Spamalot last night up in San Francisco. Absolutely brilliantly updated 'version' of Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

Still working my way through the Steely Dan back catalogue - only 4 days before I see them - but for a bit of variety I have Wages Of Sin, Notes & Rhymes, and I Know set up to cycle through on replay.

This is old timey mountain African American music, and as far as I can tell, this is the only group keeping it going. Blew me away, and everybody else.
They are just a bundle of energy, which, of course, doesn't come across on video. The guy on our left plays bones. The woman's instrument is a kazoo, which we over here now think of as childs toy.

Bobby, I've just read that Bruce Springsteen has Old Crow Medicine Show on his iPod. That's a pretty high profile recommendation for them. :) I'd not heard of them til you wrote about them here...

Mary, the group I was referring to in that post is The Carolina Chocolate Drops, just an amazing, unique group.
But, oh yeah, Old Crow is getting stronger and more popular. There will never be another song done live like their Wagon Wheel. It beams you to a parallel universe. It reminds me of the lads I'm Gonna Be, they can never not do it now.
I was at this one, well hey, I have been at all their concerts at the Ryman.

Then, this one rocks once you get past the talking.

Wow, what a great idea for a thread!

I'm almost a little embarassed to say that I have been listening to Gino Vanelli's album "These Are The Days" (well the new songs on it anyway) solid for the last 2 months or so. They are jazzy, poppy songs full of great sentiment and kick ass harmonies. And Vanelli is one of the great pop singers Canada has ever produced.

I can't pick only one song from this album, because I listen to two equally: Venus Envy is a fun song about women who think they have to be perfect to garner the attentions of a loved one, and the title track These Are the Days has some gorgeous "crunch chords" as I like to call them, that will have you wistfully considering your life to date.

You can hear brief snippets on iTunes, I don't know where to find the full songs, other than buying the album, which is a mere $7.92 (Canadian!) and also includes 7 of his all-time biggest hits.

A great purchase for the upcoming July 1st holiday!

Glad to see you've been continuing to review the music in my absence

Well I'll get us restarted

Well I just bought a Crosby, Stills and Nash CD (thanks for the recomendation Bobby) and its fantastic, with a great blend of songs, complete chill out music, like a cross between CCR and TDN.

I have also bought a few more Johnny Cash albums lately. Particular notice to his excellent 1964 album Orange Blossom Special, just amazing.

Also bought a few Leonard Cohen albums lately, not a great singer by any means, but an amazing songwriter and creates amazing music. So many of his songs I've known for years, but only recently have I actually looked him up.

I have also acquired a few more Neil Diamond albums including Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack and Stones, two excellent albums, unfortunately the former doesnt contain enough singing from Neil.

Also bought two Steve Earle albums, his latest, Townes, a great tribute to his hero Townes Van Zandt. And one of his classic albums Copperhead Road, which contains the classic Devils Right Hand
